World Disability Day – December 3rd

Today, Hadiza Aliyu’s Foundation (HAF) stands with the global community in marking World Disability Day—a day dedicated to celebrating the dignity, resilience, and contributions of over 1.3 billion persons with disabilities around the world.

At HAF, we believe that disability does not diminish a person’s worth. People with disabilities are innovators, leaders, creators, and changemakers—contributing immensely to families, communities, and nations. This day reminds us of our shared responsibility to eliminate the barriers that limit their full participation in society.

🌍 CELEBRATING ALL ABILITIES

HAF proudly honors:
• The blind and visually impaired, whose resilience and intuition inspire strength.
• The deaf and hard of hearing, who enrich communication through expressive sign languages.
• Persons with mobility impairments, who redefine independence and determination.
• Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, whose creativity broadens our world.
• Those facing mental health challenges, whose courage is both deep and profound.
• People living with chronic or neurological conditions, who push forward with grace and strength.

Every ability counts. Every life has value.

🛠️ A CALL TO ACTION FOR GOVERNMENTS, ORGANIZATIONS & COMMUNITIES

HAF urges all stakeholders to commit to a more inclusive society through:

1. Inclusive Education
• Accessible learning environments, trained teachers, and assistive materials.

2. Accessible Infrastructure
• Ramps, tactile paths, elevators, accessible transportation, and universal design.

3. Barrier-Free Healthcare
• Disability-sensitive training for health workers and access to assistive devices.

4. Economic Empowerment
• Skills training, grants, microloans, and workplace inclusion policies.

5. Political & Civic Participation
• Accessible elections and inclusion of persons with disabilities in leadership decisions.

6. Social Protection & Legal Rights
• Strong safeguards against discrimination, abuse, and neglect.

💡 OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE

Inclusion is a right—not a favour.
A society that removes barriers becomes stronger, fairer, and more united.

As we commemorate World Disability Day, HAF reaffirms its mission to build a Nigeria where every person—regardless of ability—has equal access to opportunity, dignity, and justice.
